Daily use
Daily workflow
Reconnect to your agents, add projects, preview web apps through SSH, and know what keeps running when you close the laptop.
Once the setup is done, a working day is short on commands. You connect, reattach, and check which agents need you.
Start the day
Connect to your VPN first if you set up the firewall. Then connect and reattach:
ssh agent-cloud
herdrOr open agent-cloud in VS Code or Cursor and run herdr in the maximized terminal. The sidebar shows every agent from yesterday. Blocked agents wait for an answer, and done agents finished while you were away.
Add a project
cd ~/repositories
gh repo clone OWNER/REPOSITORY
cd REPOSITORYAdd it as a new workspace from the Herdr sidebar, and run pwd in its first pane before you start an agent. Changing folders in your outer shell does not move panes that already exist.
Preview a web app
A dev server on the VPS listens on the server, not on your laptop. Forward its port over SSH instead of opening it to the internet. In a second terminal on your laptop:
ssh -N -L 127.0.0.1:3000:127.0.0.1:3000 agent-cloudOpen http://localhost:3000 in your browser. The app on the server must be running on port 3000 already. This command only forwards traffic. Press Ctrl+C to close the tunnel.
End the day
Detach with Ctrl+B then Q, or close the laptop. The agents keep working on the server. When one needs an approval, it waits in the blocked state until you reconnect.
Two things end the agents. herdr server stop ends them on purpose, and a reboot or stop of the VPS ends every process on it.
Look after the server
| Task | Where |
|---|---|
| Snapshot before big changes | hPanel, Backups & Monitoring, then Snapshots & Backups, then Create snapshot |
| CPU and memory history | hPanel, Backups & Monitoring, then Server Usage |
| Locked out of SSH | hPanel Web console as root, then fix the firewall rule or SSH config |
| IP address changed | Update the firewall rule |
The VPS bill covers the machine. Model usage is billed by Anthropic and OpenAI through your own plans, the same as on your laptop.
Hostinger also offers an API token to manage the VPS from code. If you create one, keep it on your laptop. An agent on the VPS with that token could change or delete the server it runs on.
Check
Close the laptop with an agent working. Reconnect later and run herdr. The agent is in the same pane, and its result is waiting.
